Building destination, place and tourism brand experiences.
Over recent years Sven&Friends have led the development of a diverse range of destination, place and tourism brands across Aotearoa New Zealand, for local and regional body organisations, central government and private sector enterprises.
Place and destination branding can be amongst the most challenging of assignments to undertake successfully, for both the client and their selected partners.
By their nature they are a complex matrix of sometimes conflicting community needs, expectations and opinions - for example, one group may want growth, while another sees development running out of control.
Individual communities may consider themselves separate or special and fear the loss of their local identity in a regional based place branding initiative.
It can be challenging to balance the internal cultural imperative with the external commercial objective in a region brand - civic pride and sense of shared cultural identity, versus driving tourism and economic development/investment.
Design is very subjective so inevitably that will mean some will love it while others may not.
Without adequate support or resourcing they can wither on the vine.
Done well they can be unifying, inspiring and exciting.
